French Sorrel

French Sorrel.
Looking for a leafy green to put some spring in your step? Then look no further, as the sorrels are the fuel for the job!
There are many different types of sorrels. They do not all share the same leaf structure, however, they do share the same zingy, citrusy and absolutely splendid acidic sorrel taste.

It’s well worth familiarising yourself with the sorrels. There’s lots of them about throughout the year. Definitely one of my favourites to compliment a salad.

Sorrel is highly nutritious. In addition to being low in calories, it’s high in fiber and micronutrients like magnesium and vitamins C and A. It is also packed with antioxidants!

Test-tube and animal studies have found that sorrel can block the growth and spread of certain types of cancer cells. Animal research also suggests that sorrel can improve several aspects of heart health. For reasons I can’t work out human studies are lacking……..?

Scientific name: Rumex scutatus
