Behold the one and only Common Mugwort!
Mugwort has been used for centuries. The Romans held mugwort in high regard and were very much aware of it’s benefits and uses. There are lots of mythical beliefs linking mugwort to the spirit world and it’s believed by some to protect against evil and help bring on positive dreams.
In traditional Asian medicine, mugwort leaves are formed into sticks or cones about the size and shape of a cigar, and then burned on or over an acupuncture point to release energy in a process called moxibustion. Moxibustion has been practiced for more than 3,000 years in China. There are multiple studies that claim the smoke inhalation of mugwort has certain health benefits such as improving the autonomic nervous system and inducing a relaxing effect on the body. Other studies appear to prove that the smoke of mugwort can help re position a baby in the womb.
Mugwort is still used in traditional cooking in many parts of the world. There are many health benefits to consuming mugwort, such as helping with headaches, nosebleeds, chills, fever, nerve problems and insomnia. It can be made into tinctures, teas, pills and extracts.
