A potentially fatally poisoning mushroom, containing the same toxins as the death cap. A very good one to be aware of as it does look similar to the Velvet Shank which is a delicious winter treat! The Funeral Bell has a skirt or at least the remains of one, where as the Velvet Shank does not and also has a velvety stem.
Do not let poisonous mushrooms put you off in any way! It’s just a case of learning what’s what. As time passes you will become more and more confident with your identifications. There are countless poisonous plants out there which also shouldn’t stop you eating your greens and getting in your minimum of 5 a day! If you have the skills to identify a cabbage from an iceberg lettuce then you have the potential skills to tell apart mushrooms!
