These mushrooms are such a beautiful find. One of the first early signs of more colour coming back into the natural world around us, towards the end of the winter months.
This orange variant is an extremely rare find in the UK. I was shocked to find these in a spot where I’ve been finding standard scarlet elf cups for several years now.
Straight after you pick these guys, if you put them up to your ear, you will hear them puffing away their spores! One of the finest bassline rhythms the woodlands have to offer!
They are perfectly edible and have a great texture, with a bit of a bite to them. Try sticking them on a pizza!
Scientific Name: Sarcoscypha Austriaca
Happy foraging!
