Common Mallow

Common Mallow
A bold and beautiful plant. It’s hard to walk past this one without it grabbing your attention.

It’s believed to have been deliberately cultivated by the Romans for food and medicine.

The leaves, flowers and seeds are all edible. It’s used by herbalists as a natural astringent, anti-inflammatory, and emollient. Also used to soothe and soften skin. High in calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, selenium, and vitamins A and C. A great source of nutrition in many recipes. Also makes a lovely cuppa! 🍵

As the name suggests it’s fairly common so keep your eyes peeled my fellow foragers!

Scientific name: Malva neglecta

Happy foraging!!
