Dog Rose!
A gorgeous flower, it is good to note it’s location now as in the autumn it will produce glorious rose hips!
This plant is highly medicinal, the best parts are the hips but the flowers are also edible. A superb decoration to any meal. When drunk in infusions, dog rose flower petals are used to fend off headaches and treat dizziness.
In Ancient Greece, this flower was used to treat colds and throat inflammation.
This plant has a very high vitamin C content which was extremely useful during World War II. English commanders distributed it to the front lines to bolster soldier health. It was also well consumed back home during the times of rationing.
All is all it’s a highly underrated plant that grows all over our land here in the UK. Let’s give it the attention it deserves!
